Doodle Rose Cane Polymer Clay Tutorial

Polymer Clay Doodle Rose Cane
Polymer Clay Doodle Rose Cane

In this polymer clay tutorial I’ll be showing you how to make a doodle rose cane. Its a fun, abstract cane that doesn't require too much precision. No matter how you put it together and reduce it, it will still create a pretty and interesting effect.

It’s a great cane for getting started with polymer clay and can be added to lots of easy projects.

We will be using this doodle cane in the Dots and Doodles Pendant Project.

You will need the following supplies:

  • Black and pearl white polymer clay (Premo)
  • A tissue blade
  • A pasta machine
  • An acrylic roller
  • A craft knife

Steps To Making A Polymer Clay Doodle Rose Cane

  • The first step is to get all of your polymer clay ready.
  • You will need a slab of black clay 1 to 1.5 cm thick.

You will also need white or pearl white run out on the middle setting of your pasta machine.

  • Use your craft knife to cut a round out of the center of your back slab. Wrap it in your pearl white.
  • Stretch your black slab slightly, so that you can reinsert the wrapped log.
  • Push the clay back together so that the cut out piece sticks back to the black clay.
  • Use your craft knife to cut around it to create a bigger log, and wrap that too. Replace in the slab as before.
  • Repeat several times until you have a large rose looking pattern.
  • Trim off as much of the black as you can to create a square polymer clay cane.
  • Reduce to a log the size you want.
  • Trim off the ends.
We will be using this doodle rose cane in part two of this tutorial to create a beautiful Dots and Doodles pendant.
